You are Greater Than

Greater than a mother

A wife, A child, A sister, A friend.

Greater than the family’s only nutritionist,

2AM physician to the critters in your home that emerged from your womb.

You are greater than that which is of service to everyone else…except yourself.

You are Greater Than.

You are a force, a voice, a movement to be reckoned with that will not reconcile unless freedom is realized.

You are Greater Than.

You are a mechanism for peace and strength

When you speak, people listen.

When you think, the world ceases spinning.

When you drink from the Nile, the world bows down in your greatness.

When God smiles upon you, you bow down to pray and receive His faithfulness.

You are Greater Than.

You do not have to fashion yourself to look like her or her or her or her,

Or be for him or him or him or him what only he wants.

You are not less than that you should forget your power

And relinquish the rights to your being into the hands of the menaced ones.

You are Greater Than.

A woman whose intellect took her farther than looks could travel

And whose courage gave her more wealth than removing her clothes every could.

A woman who sees the unseen and speaks when the mute cannot scream.

You are Greater Than.

You tear up the roots of imprisonment in misogynistic lands

And on plantations where societal norms that are as fake as his “I love you” keep you enslaved.

You are Greater Than.

Greater than an apron, a kitchen, vacuum, a bed for your husband’s legs.

Greater than a punching bag for your spouse’s words of belittlement and discouragement.

You are Greater Than and will stand when time stands no longer.

Your feet do more than sweep the floors of bleeding and broken homes.

Your speech rings louder when you talk rockets versus gossip.

Maybe you are physically a mother, a wife, a sister, a daughter, a friend, a servant.

But you are still Greater Than.

You are who the 3 Marys were when they followed our Savior, Christ, on His journey to the cross.

You are who the Queen of Sheba needed to be to encourage and save the king.

You are the mother of Moses who unselfishly gave her child to The Most High.

You are Sarah and you stand as faithfully as she stood even when God said not now.

You are Greater Than.

You are power.

Act Like it.
