Prince Transcends

Prince once said that “a strong spirit transcends rules”.  Well, The Purple One has transcended life.  He has surpassed all that is earthly and has gone to be with our ancestors.  For many, the news of his passing came with great grief anda sullenness only broken by the sound of “Purple Rain” on every radio station.  Windows down, sunroof open, with tears rolling from the thought of losing another, yes-another, one of the boldest and blackest musicians the world has ever seen.  Not only was Prince an amazing musician, who wrote every note, played every instrument, and performed his entire first album, but he was proud.  Proud to be black.  Proud to transcend the traditional views and societal constrictions of masculinity.  Proud to love music; good music.

Prince gave us something to fight for; Freedom.  He lived freely, unapologetically doing his music his way. His style embodied a man who walked with purpose and no restraints. His frankness in every interview made us all wonder why we remained reluctant to tell the truth.  He transcended—and by doing so, encouraged us all to follow suit.

Rest In Peace Prince Rogers Nelson.
