Unicorns
Pleasant Thoughts?
What are those?
They’re like thoughts of freedom for black folks in a place where
We can roam freely and ride the unicorns of our destinies
Thoughts that keep us going in the tough times
When are black bodies are bleeding out on yellow street lines
Thoughts that heat up the night and seem to warm our souls
When we feel like our grief and pain have nowhere else to go
So we take strides to keep these pleasant thoughts
We fight for them as must though our turmoil often leaves us distraught
Without help from an outside world
That doesn’t give two nickels for our boys and girls
And throws them away after refusing them education
So they can blame them for a failing and offensive nation
Pleasant thoughts involve dreams of food for every human being
Warm, clean water for cleansing and crisp, clean air for breathing
Oh what pleasant thoughts we might have if we learn to take the things we lack
Build communities that speak life and KEEP life
Educating and financing our youth so we don’t have to depend on the troops.
Pleasant Thoughts?
What are those?
Unicorns…they’re unicorns.
