Write the Vision – Make it Plain

Vision Board How-to

Habakkuk 2:2

“And the Lord answered me: “Write the vision; make it plain on tablets, so he may run who reads it.”

We’ve discussed goal setting extensively on thekroun.com. In fact, there are three separate blog posts dedicated to providing practical tools & resources for setting your goals each year. The first edition details why we should subscribe to the idea of goal setting instead of making New Year’s resolutions. The second edition takes a deeper dive into the very concept of goal setting by providing five practical steps for completing the task. The third edition gives even more tools for accomplishing your goals. And, now, it’s time to introduce the concept of the vision board.

If you’ve never seen or heard of a vision board (I’d be surprised, since they’re all the rage amongst millennials), let me offer this simple explanation – A vision board is a physical or digital pictorial depiction of your goals. Easy enough, right?

Basically, what you’re trying to do is communicate your goals using digital or physical photos, words cut out of magazines, stickers, or whichever arts and crafts convey the message. Doing so often helps you visualize your goals, which makes it easier to take daily actions towards achieving them.

For the last three years, KROUN has hosted a Grow & Glo Brunch that allows women the opportunity to work through creating their goals and writing their vision without fear of judgement or quite frankly any questioning from family, peers, kids, etc. On January 5, 2019, KROUN hosted the 3rdannual installment of the event, and I was met with many questions on how to do a vision board before, during, and after the brunch. So, I thought I’d share some practical tips to get you started.

1)   Write your goals ahead of making your vision board. Either at the end of the previous year or at the very beginning of the current year. The sooner the better, so that you don’t waste time on creating your vision board or achieving your goals. Envision what you want your new year to look like and write it down in plain language. 2) Go to Hobby Lobby, Michael’s, or any of your local craft stores to purchase your board, stickers, lettering, planner stickers that can be used on your board to convey your message. Remember, this board is for your consumption only (unless you’d like to share it with friends and family). So, be sure that it looks the way you want it to look.

3) Gather as many magazines as you can to find pictures to match your vision and cut up.

4) Get to boarding! Have a party with your closest friends. Do your vision board with your spouse. Or, grab a glass of wine and do it all by yourself. Just do it!

5)   Hang in an area of your home where you spend lots of time and know that you will have to see it daily. Some people have even created a miniature version of their boards to stick in or on their planners.

YOU’RE DONE!

I know that this may seem daunting to some. However, I will tell you that for the last 3 years I have done this. And I have achieved about 90% of the goals I’ve set on each of those boards.

Good blessings and best of luck to you all. I pray abundance over your blessings this year.
